Apple Cider and Turmeric Detox Tea

This is one of my favourite tea's that I discovered when I was in Rishikesh, India whilst studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.  I loved it so much that I had three cups one after the other, so this recipe is well overdue! 
This tea is absolutely packed with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and has an abundance of antioxidants.  These help ward off germs, fight disease and potentially protect against cancer, kidney stones and relieves muscle pain and arthritis.  It is also high in vitamin C which boosts the immune system, reduces the risk of heart disease or stroke, and can also help to control weight.

  • Saucepan or stove teapot
  • Mug
  • Spoon
  • Tea strainer


  • 1 inch Ginger Cut into small chunks
  • 1 cup Water Add a little bit extra as some may evaporate if on high heat
  • 1 stick Cinnamon Or use 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • Pinch Cayenne Pepper Optional


  • Place the water into a saucepan, put it on the hop and turn it on to a medium heat.  Wait for the water to boil, place the cut up ginger in the saucepan and turn down the heat.  Leave it to simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Then add the fresh cinnamon to the pot and leave to simmer for a further 10 minutes. If you do not use fresh cinnamon then add the powder to the cup according to step 3.
  • In the meantime, grab a mug and put the honey, lemon juice, vinegar, turmeric, and cinnamon if you are using the powder form, and stir it.
  • When the last 10 minutes is up, strain the water with a tea strainer into the mug and give it one final stir.  Enjoy!
